Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

Chapter 1 page 1

My heart was in a blender and the only thing I could think of was getting to the house. It had been four years since I had set foot in my home country. It seemed like everything had changed, but time changes everything, so I wasn’t too surprised over the losses and the new additions. I sat in the passenger’s seat of the car listening to Mr. Kaede ramble about the flight, his wife, and other trivial matters. Since when had people started becoming such… whiners? But I digress, change is change.

We arrived at the old inn that my family had owned for years and had renovated it into apartments. Mr. Kaede was one of the tenants there along with his wife, who he loved to complain about. He must have been at least fifty years old, but he was as stubborn as a mule and refuses to leave her. Relationships… why do we have them again? Ah, yes; to satisfy our need for companionship and to shove our loneliness away. To be honest, it all disgusts me. All of the fake emotions, the tears shed, and the hearts that end up broken… they’re really just a waste of time and energy. Sadly, we need them though. If it weren’t for them… I wouldn’t be alive… no one would exist and the world would be cold and empty.

I sighed and got out of the car, stretching my arms out as far as they could go. Long flights and car trips made my legs and arms go numb for some reason, I’ve never known why though. Must be a sign of aging. I grabbed my bag out of the back seat and threw it over my shoulder. I pack very lightly, only the essentials, so I didn’t have a suitcase. Quickly I hopped up the stairs to the old apartment and dug in my pocket for the key. Only a millisecond later, I found it and unlocked the door to apartment number sixty-six. Pausing, I scanned the room, looking for anything out of the ordinary. It had been a while since I had a certain problem… and it wouldn’t be the best time now to have it again. After what seemed like twenty minutes of silence, I let out a breath and stepped through the door into the main room of the apartment.

Silence. Nothing but utter silence. It was too eerie, too ominous. I had chills going up and down my body while the hair stood up on the back of my neck. I tried to keep a clear mind, worry free, not a care in the world. However lying to yourself about the inevitable isn’t the best thing to do. That’s when the door slammed shut and locked. I spun around with a lump in my throat staring at the door. I finally broke down and did what needed to be done. Pulling out a tape recorder from my bag and then tossing said bag to the other side of the room, I pressed record and started talking.

“Hello, my name is Kado Hikari. I am 17 years old and I was a resident here at one time. Do you remember me?”

Nothing. No sound at all was made after I finished talking. I was most likely being paranoid.

Turning off the recorder and walking over to my bag I felt another icy chill, this time… on my hand.

“I missed you…”

A soft voice giggled, which was obviously female. I paused and tried to think things through logically. Yes, logically… and the logical explanation for that was that I as either insane, or something just spoke. Being the jerk I am and not admitting my own faults, I went with the second explanation.

“May I ask your name?”

There was another chuckle, which irritated me to no end.

“I don’t mean to sound rude, but I’m not in the mood for games. So please, tell me your name.”

The constant awkward silence between my words and her responses was starting to grow tiring.

“You should know who I am silly! After all, I’ve been with you for a long time now.”
